Begin with a 50 minute drive into the picturesque Sigatoka Valley for fabulous views of Fiji’s famous “Salad bowl” – known for its colorful patchwork of fruit and vegetable crops. Hear the fascinating history of notorious Tongan warriors and glimpse ancient hill fortresses of Tavuni and Matanavatu. Enjoy a kava ceremony and picnic lunch before a bamboo raft ferries you across the river, then a short walk to the Naihehe Caves. The entrance is a tropical garden setting. See natural features include sparkling stalactites, stalagmites, flow-stones and underground springs. You’ll see a ritual platform, priest chambers and cannibal oven. Next, take a 30-min walk across native bush and farms down to the river for a downstream “bilibili” ride. These bamboo rafts are still the traditional mode of transport for river based villages. Enjoy morning tea (own expense) at the seaside town of Manly and take a walk along The Corso, which separates harbour from ocean. See the beach that has contributed to Manly’s reputation as a popular waterfront suburb and relaxed weekend haunt. Return to Sydney via the exclusive and trendy suburbs of Neutral Bay and Mosman.
